Estate Plans More Likely to Include Planned Gifts

New research findings show that it is more crucial than ever for planned giving professionals to encourage estate planning. According to updated statistics by planned giving researcher Russell James of Texas Tech University, the use of wills is continuing its decline in the United States while the use of funded trusts is up - and most important, those who do have an estate plan are more likely to include a charitable beneficiary.

At its semiannual meeting on April 5, 2016, the Board of Directors of the American Council on Gift Annuities (ACGA) reaffirmed the existing schedule of suggested maximum rates for charitable gift annuities which was originally published on January 1, 2012. As part of its ongoing review process, the Rates Committee of the ACGA monitors particular interest rates that underlie the investment return assumptions used to create the rate schedules. Annuitant mortality and other investment and expense assumptions are evaluated and updated as necessary on an annual basis. Wealthiest Women Cite More Reasons to Give; One-Size-Fits-All Marketing Does Not Work

New research shows that the wealthiest women cite more and different reasons for giving to charity but also that high-net-worth women and men are more alike than the general population in their philanthropy. The 2015 study from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University also found that one-size-fits-all fundraising programs are inadvisable for nonprofits.

While Women Are More Altruistic, Egoism Plays Important Role in Giving

Women are more motivated to give to charity by altruism and by trust in an organization, according to new research presented at a symposium panel moderated by Pentera President & CEO Claudine A. Donikian. While the research applies to outright gifts, it lines up well with previous research on planned gifts and on women in philanthropy.
