Pentera President & CEO Claudine A. Donikian will be moderating what should be a fascinating session on the latest research on the motivations of donors at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy's annual symposium Oct. 30.
The 28th annual symposium, "Philanthropy and Fundraising: What We Know and What We Need to Know," will be held in Indianapolis. It begins with an awards dinner Oct. 29 and then has a full day of sessions Oct. 30. The session moderated by Ms. Donikian is called "Insights into Motivations for Giving" and features Russell James, planned giving researcher from Texas Tech University, and Sara Konrath of the Lilly School.
Dr. James, Ph.D., CFP®, is a professor and director of graduate studies in charitable financial planning at Texas Tech who has recently conducted brain research as it relates to planned giving. In 2013 he published a major research study of charitable bequests titled American Charitable Bequest Demographics.
Dr. Konrath, Ph.D., is assistant professor of philanthropic studies at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and director of the Interdisciplinary Program on Empathy and Altruism Research (iPEAR). Her recent research has found that empathy has been declining among younger generations in the United States. Her research has also found that people's motives for giving have implications for their health.
