Gift annuities using the newly adopted (effective July 1, 2010) and slightly higher annuity rates qualify for a charitable deduction when the charitable midterm federal rate (CMFR) is 3.2% or higher. With the July CMFR falling to 2.8% gift annuities at some younger ages won’t qualify.

Gift Annuity Rates Up ... Slightly

On April 28, 2010, the board of directors of the American Council on Gift Annuities approved a new schedule of gift annuity rates that will take effect on July 1, 2010. Both one-life and two-life rates for individuals between the ages of 55 and 85 will be generally 0.1 – 0.2 percent higher.
