Claudine Donikian to Lead Session on Working with Women Donors at ACGA Conference in April

Planned giving professionals interested in the latest strategies for working with women donors will want to attend the session on women and philanthropy that will be presented by Pentera President & CEO Claudine A. Donikian at the April conference of the American Council on Gift Annuities.

"The unequivocal truth is that women are changing the face of philanthropy," says Ms. Donikian, whose professional area of interest is women in philanthropy and who serves on the advisory council for the prestigious Women's Philanthropy Institute at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. "More and more philanthropic decisions are being made by women, who now control more than half the wealth in the United States. At the same time, exciting new research shows that women are more philanthropic than men and that women donors think and act differently than their male counterparts."

The session on women and philanthropy
Ms. Donikian's session, "Women and Philanthropy: They Have the Wealth. Do You Have the Tools to Reach Them?" will be presented twice on the morning of Thursday, April 7. The 32nd ACGA Conference, "Changing Lives, Transforming Communities," is April 6-8 in St. Louis, Missouri. The session is the product of decades of Pentera helping clients work with women donors plus a review of the latest research on women in philanthropy. Much of that new research has been conducted by the Women's Philanthropy Institute. Ms. Donikian commissioned one recent study by the institute that focuses on actual donors of planned gifts. That study, now in its third phase, is still under way.

The session will:
  • Explain the reasons for the historic wealth transfer to women.
  • Document the generosity of women.
  • Analyze how women philanthropists think differently, including key ways that women donors are different from men.
  • Present strategies for working with women donors.

"Women tend to get much more involved in a cause and are much more likely to want to work with other women when making philanthropic decisions," says Ms. Donikian, JD, MBA. "In this session we will explore this research and look at communication strategies through a marketing lens for connecting with women donors."
